SUI Employees Support Local STEM and Career Outreach Events

STEM Day

April 12, 2018

Approximately one hundred and forty eighth grade girls from Lawrence Middle School attended a one-day Women in Leadership and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) workshop in Lawrence, New Jersey. Sensors Unlimited employees Wei Huang, Wei Zhang, John Wieners, Steve Stromenger, and Brendan Murphy were proud to host the event. “STEM events foster problem-solving, creativity and critical thinking skills in these young ladies, we were honored to participate in an event that helps to reduce the gender gap in STEM fields. The girls were able to demo our products, talk to our employees, and really picture themselves in those careers.”

Career Day

April 5, 2018

As part of the Lawrence Middle School’s 30th annual Career Day, Sensors Unlimited employees Steve Stromenger and Brendan Murphy had the opportunity to speak with local eighth graders about their future professional careers. Approximately 15 industry speakers spoke to 250 students at the New Jersey Middle School on April 5th. “Career days are a wonderful way for students to consider their future and the transition from school into the workforce.” said Mr. Murphy.  Career readiness is a growing topic in public education; many schools are integrating career readiness programs into the curriculum.  Mr. Stromenger added, “We had the opportunity to discuss our own unique paths to education and career, maintaining a focus on passion and excellence in whatever field you enter. The participants asked great questions about our experiences, enjoyed seeing how our products worked, and problems that they solved.”
